We’ve been back to Bempton Cliffs. It was busy, it was full of people with dogs and there were quite a lot of Puffins about.

I like Puffins.
I’m not so keen on crowds.
And I think that dog owners should have to pass a test before being allowed out in public. I had to wait at the entrance to the visitor centre as two pairs of dogs faced off. I’ve been forced off paths and tripped several times too.

I apologize on behalf of dog owners everywhere. I feel like dogs belong on a leash unless they are so well behaved that they stay with their owners or at least ignore everyone else. I have seen a few like that – they won’t even give my (leashed) dog a second glance. It is especially troubling to have a leashed dog being pestered by a non-leashed dog with no owner in sight. So – yeah – I get the frustration.
Your puffin pictures made my day. They are excellent! Even the name is cute.
It’s a problem. I like dogs and I like most dog owners. But, like so many things they are a nuisance in quantity, and you only notice the bad ones.
Puffins, on the other hand, are great in quantity and there are no bad Puffins.
That feels like a bumper sticker: “there are no bad puffins”
That sounds like it could be a chapter in “Lipstick on a Razorbill” my new project.
I love puffins and am very happy you have provided some excellent photos of them. I am less happy about dogs though they seem to like me.
For some reason they seemed intent on getting under my feet on Sunday. 🙂

Someone actually took a cat on a lead on Sunday. With so many rampaging dogs it was very unhappy and refused to walk, so they had to pick it up.

And we could get to them by just going to Maine, I think.
According to various websites you could indeed see them in Maine – but you need to go at the right time – go too soon in the year and they are all in their burrows hatching eggs.
Nobody goes to Maine too early in the year…
My view of Maine is somewhat coloured by watching Cabot Cove in Murder She Wrote, but I recently discovered that the filming takes place in California. This makes a difference…
It did look like Maine, though. And some of the characters had the accent, sort of.
Despite this I now know that it isn’t snowy or muddy enough. To be honest I’m not sure Hollywood gives a particularly accurate picture of the UK either. We don’t, despite the evidence of Disney, have raccoons. 🙂
yes, I don’t think there was ever an episode in mud season or the winter. It’s fiction. Accuracy is optional.
