Here, at last, is the list of birds we say in our half hour. Despite a great deal of excitement, which showed itself as chatter and rapid hand gestures, we managed to see 14 species.

Blue tit, Great tit, Long-tailed tit, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Rook, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Yellowhammer, Wood Pigeon and, finally, Buzzard.

Not very impressive, particularly after the list on Tuesday, but it’s another step forward for the people doing the census.
