Day 105

I just had three notifications from Facebook. One of the is a regular one telling me that I haven’t signed up to any groups. There is a reason for that, I don’t want to be in any. They take too much time. I barely have enough time to fit in all my procrastinating and displacement activity as it is. And, based on my last time with Facebook, they will be full of people I don’t want to be in a group with.

Another was from a suggested “new friend”. They aren’t new, because they cropped up last week, and they aren’t a friend as I have never met them either in RL or online. They aren’t a friend, they aren’t even an acquaintance. At best they are an irritating stranger. At worst they are a possible stalker or serial killer.

The third was as suggestion that I might like to join a comedy group. Why? I’ve shown no inclination to comedy in any of my Facebook visits. The only thing I look at is the page for the Numismatic Society, so why not suggest other Numismatic Society pages? At the risk of sounding like a crusty old fossil, the picture suggests that the comedy will be modern, and most modern comedy doesn’t make me laugh.

This is why I left Facebook last time, and why I never promoted the blog or the farm on Facebook. Twitter is better, but even that is improved by not reading it. The only decent social media I see is WP and even then I have concerns about it.

I use FB to keep in touch with things going on in the town as we haven’t been getting out as much as we used to and don’t know what has happened. I would miss it if I stopped but it is very irritating too.

πŸ™‚ I’m not even the most famous Simon Wilson in Nottingham! In fact I checked several pages and there are eight others in Nottingham – one is dead and one is a criminal and they still rank higher than me. I gave up at that point . . . πŸ™‚

Oh…the one I added might be a criminal? So I shouldn’t send him the money for his ailing grandmother?

As if that wasn’t bad enough, one of the others is an accountant and another is a lawyer. It really is a name that has fallen into disrepute.

Very good! I use Facebook to message friends and family. I have joined a few groups but rarely ready any of the notifications. I joined groups pertaining to plants so I can post photos when I get stumped, usually cacti. Posting photos is easier than looking through hundreds of photos. My FB is private and is only for friends and family, but on occasion I get a friends request from some girl I have never met nor do I want to. May not even be a girl anyway, just a photo they found somewhere. There are so many advertisements on the feed instead of what other friend’s post it is insane… I hope you are well.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I haven’t been reading many posts either because reading can put me to sleep. I have been very bad about not posting much since last fall. Working on updating plant pages and writing descriptions. That, my friend, will definitely put you to sleep… It requires reading and writing descriptions in laymans terms. Using my brain… So, I apologize for not keeping up with your posts. You post everyday and I really admire that.
