The M1 was quite busy today, so I suspect that we weren’t the only ones out on a Christmas Mission. It was also grey, wet and miserable, but as we were heading into Yorkshire this was not a surprise. Northern weather is famous for its greyness, moisture content and humourless qualities and this was a prizewinning example of its type. When I say that when I win the lottery I’m going to buy a house in a desert, I’m not joking. Well, the “win the lottery” may have an ironic ring, but the “desert” part is heartfelt.
There were still quite a few lorries on the road, despite 5,000 of them being parked in Kent. The Great Kent Car Parking Scheme is, I think, giving us an insight into how the first days of Brexit will go. The only good thing I heard is that due to lorries being unable to come from the Continent there will be a lettuce shortage. This, as far as I’m concerned, is not a problem, and almost makes Brexit worthwhile. IT certainly underlines the unpatriotic nature of salad eating, and the carbon footprint generated by winter vegetarians. Eat carrots in winter, lettuce in Spring, when we can grow our own.
Any way, back to the desperadoes breaking lockdown regulations…
We travelled up, we travelled down. We moved a Covid-tested family member from one Level 3 area to another, where he will spend four days indoors (we will not be socialising with open windows, no matter what the government says) and we will do the journey in reverse.
I can’t say I have any feeling about being a criminal and I don’t think I’ve actually ceded much in the way of moral high ground to Boris Johnson.
I see on TV that they have been vaccinating Chelsea Pensioners, including a D-Day Veteran.
Only one day left at work then I get a week off. It’ll be alot like lockdown but without the satisfaction of being paid by the Government…
I am glad that you got home safely. Have a good Christmas when it comes.
Thank you. And a Happy Christmas to you and Mrs T too.
Lettuce-free-bliss.
🙂 Indeed.
I’m sure you’re not the only one who has been collecting a loved on! When I was on the M1 on Tuesday (albeit only collecting milk), the M1 was chocka. There was also an abandoned lorry, although I think the driver was actually there on the bank at the side of the road.
Yes, there were several breakdowns – one being a lorry and a couple featuring bedraggled families doing the safe thing and standing in the rain. We had a dealer visit the shop this morning – he had been stopped by police on the way down, but was allowed to proceed as he was on business.
Where had he been travelling from, out of interest?
Theoretically speaking we may have hypothetically been to Horsforth and back.
😊
Nice place, Horsforth. I lived there for three years.
It seems a nice place, though we’v never actually stopped – always dropped off furniture and left. One day we may get time to stop snd relax, if the virus goes away. 🙂
It’s one of the parts of Leeds which has a zero waste shop and a farmers market. Not when I lived there – but I used to love the road from Tinshill to Otley (via Bramhope).
I realise that probably means nought to you right now but maybe you can lodge it in your mind – fantastic views over the Wharfe Valley. One day I need to find somewhere to park the car and walk along the best bit. Not today, though, as we’re going to try woods nearer home with interesting historical mounds, which I’ve only recently been made aware of. Have a lovely day with your family 😊
Interesting historical mounds are good – I hope it goes well. One day we must stop when we visit but these days we mainly leave stuff in the back yard, chat, wave and go. 🙂
Yes, not the best time for touristic visits!
Re the mounds, we didn’t manage to locate the woods but we had a restorative walk anyway.
Enjoy the rest of your day, Simon 😊
You still have a few months before the mounds get covered in foliage. 🙂
That is true!
There is an English Civil War star fort near Peterborough that is quite clear in autumn and winter and invisible in spring and summer. Very frustrating when trying to show it to visitors. Have to admit, most of the people I showed it to weren’t that impressed, even in autumn…
I’ve not heard of this fort before. Taking it we can get down there in the future, it would be interesting to visit.
Unfortunately it’s in a garden so can only be seen in passing. The best, and biggest, is the Queen’s Sconce in Newark.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sconce_and_Devon_Park
Is this different from Newark Castle? I’ve been to the castle in the town but was unaware of the Queen’s Sconce, if it is something different.
It’s in a park as you travel out of town to the A 46 to Nottingham.
Okay, not been there but another place to explore as and when 😊
Hope your holidays are as happy as can be during this time of the pandemic. I am taking a short break from writing posts and reading blogs until the new year 2021. Catch you next year. 😉
Have a good holiday. 🙂
There has been a bit of controversy over here now about vaccine distribution. Seems certain states were shorted, mine was one of them.
I’m sure we have some of that to come. Some people just shout louder than others…
