I pressed the button on the random subject generator and this was what came up – “What does getting old mean to you?”
It wasn’t what I was hoping for. I could have come up with that on my own. I had honestly meant to write on any subject that came up, but as many of my posts are already on that subject I thought I’d try again.
So I tried again.
“Write about your feet.”
I am very tempted, but it would include thoughts about arthritis and about getting old so, again, it’s nothing new.
One last try.
“Write your obituary.”
You know, I sometimes wonder if the world really does hate me. I have recently had to help with my father’s obituary and I could have done without a reminder. It was bad enough this morning when someone came into the shop to buy a Father’s Day present. I’ll be cheerful again tomorrow, but for tonight I’ll pass.
So, one last try.
“What has made you angry recently?”
That’s easy, the random subject generator has been winding me up for the last half hour. I could, given another hair’s breadth of provocation, really let rip on the subject of random subject generators. It’s not much of a thing to get worked up about but it will do for the moment.
There other things to get worked up about but I’ll leave you with a quote.

This could so easily be a quote from Cecil Rhodes, but it’s actually a quote from Umgandan, a Matabele induna.
Whatever today’s revisionists may think, not all the invaders in Africa were white.
I don’t know how many of today’s revisionists may think that all the invaders in Africa were white but if they do, they were as badly taught as the people who think that we went there to do good.
A frightening selection of random thoughts. They have been reading my mind again.
I’m amazed to find that people are still taught history. My kids didn’t do any at secondary level. It’s nice to know that some schools do still teach history.
I got into trouble several times for asking if kids had heard of Romans or Christopher Columbus or Henry VIII when running classes on the farm. You aren’t allowed to mention things they hadn’t yet done in class and, it seems, it’s impossible to know anything if they hadn’t done it at school.
I knew a lot of things before we did it at school because I joined a library as soon as I could read and used to read books. My parents, who both left school at 14, helped if I couldn’t manage the words.
This is about to turn into a rant about education, so I’ll go and put the kettle on.
I read a lot of books too when I was young and learned a lot of duff history from some of them. I’ve had to unlearn a lot as I’ve grown older.
To be honest, the Vikings did look better in horned helmets…

Mankind’s history is marked by copious bloodshed. Our species, tribal by nature, has a long way to go.
Current news is highly disturbing. I try to fix what I am able to fix, whether by examining myself, standing up for someone else, or exercising my right to vote. Changes come with each generation, although it seems that old “us” and “them” baggage always comes along in some form.
You and Julia are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay well, both of you. Find the good things where you can.

I have started watching too much news due to Covid 19. I am going to stop it now. It won’t make the world a better place but it will mean I won’t need to spend the rest of my life annoyed by the stupidity of mankind.
When I sit and think things over I’m not sure anything has changed over the years apart from the efficiency of weapons and the growing unreliability of political news.
