I went to Leeds today. It rained. And to make things more depressing I trusted the satnav, which never ends well. If I ever enter Mastermind my specialist subject could well be “Being lost on the Ring Road in Leeds”.
I’m home now and watching The Apprentice. It gives me no hope for the future. If I was the producer I would rewrite it as a horror movie andΒ kill one every week in a horrible, ironic manner. The one selected from tonight’s show, to make and sell burgers, would be in serious trouble if I had access to an industrial-sized mincer.
To be honest, if I was in charge I’d feed the lot of them through it, including Lord Sugar and Baroness Brady. I give them their full titles because I know, from reading his book, that he considers it important, even if most of us find the current honours system a bit of an embarrassment.
Fair play to him though, if you excel in your field you deserve an honour. Not quite sure what field the Amstrad email phoneΒ was a leader in, but the principle is sound.
I like Claude Littner, I’d let him have his own series. Well, with my plan for the rest of the cast you’d have quite a few weeks to fill in.
After leaving Leeds we went to Skipton and visited a farm shop. We bought rhubarb coulis, samphire, marmalade with orange and chilli and a big steak pie. I will try to take pictures tomorrow if I have time after eating. It’s a big pie and will take some shifting.
Today’s photos were snatched during a dry few minutes. Sorry there are no better ones.
The only reason I can navigate Leeds is because I know it so well – well, most of it. The road system is truly bonkers!
I was OK when we were going up six times a year or more when he was at University but now we don’t go up so much I use sat nav and always seem to have a problem. Ah well… π
Satnavs can cause problems anyway, I think.
Yes, there have been some amusing stories over the years. π
Same here π
Still, on the whole they have saved me money in petrol (I.e. I’ve got there much more effectively).
A friend of mine complained that when he joined the Royal Navy they made him learn to use a sextant and when he left they were using sat navs, which requires a lot less skill.
Not sure what a sextant is…

I see – thank you!
No problem. π

Rainy is reality – which is more, it seems to me who has also never seen it, than can be said for The Apprentice
Yes, the Apprentice is getting ever more divorced from reality. I envy people who have the ability to be discerning over their TV viewing.
If you ever have the time, the Armouries Museum in Leeds is well worth a visit and it may still be free.
Went twice with the kids – keep meaning to go again. Also the Thackray Medical Museum – sounds good. There are some good museums about, and now I’m reaching 60 I’m expecting some discounts! π
Loved the Apprentice last night! I have to say the boys team were absolutely dreadful this week. Absolute shambles ππ
Yes, I feel many more rants coming on.:-)
I love the damp grassy cobbles. I have never watched The Apprentice so I can’t comment.
Don’t start. It’s dreadful and addictive.
Sounds like a frustrating but partly interesting day that you have had.
Family errand, so it needed doing. Turned out OK. π
That is good then. ππ§
π
Oh, boy! Never have seen the show, and I don’t plan to. Sigh.
I once saw the US version. Thought the bloke in charge was an idiot. Who, I thought, would trust him to run anything?
I have never seen the show.
That’s probably a good thing. π
