The farm won two awards in the Nottingham Post Environmental awards last night – winner in the Land Use and runner-up in the Coping with Climate Change categories.
After a brief break to bask in self-satisfaction I’d better get back to work. That environmentally friendly compost isn’t going to turn itself.
I did see compost that turned itself. In a big rotating compost tumbler with a motor and crank attached that a handy gardener had set up. But it was nowhere near the amount of compost that I have in my bins.
I have tried a few turning systems but nothing beats a good old fashioned heap and a fork. I was told to stop usoing the words “forking good compost” when we had school parties visiting.
