Day 80 Post 79

The gardens at Springfields

Neither figure in the title is particularly significant, but together they tell me I am one post behind my target. This is, to be fair, the story of my life. My approach to life can be summed up by the phrases “good enough” or “that’ll do” so it’s no surprise that I’m hovering around my target. Around, but not above.

The title is also a sneaky time-saving device. Next time I want to check on progress I have a place to start and can avoid the time spent in counting the first 79 posts and 80 days. Is that, I wonder, a sign that I am well-organised, or a sign that I am lazy?

Whatever it is, it is definitely a sign that I need to write an extra post to get back on target.

It’s also a sign that the year is nearly quarter of the way through. It’s my favourite bit. The magnolias are coming out, even though they will soon be a mass of decaying petals. The lilacs and the laburnums will soon be out and, before you know it, the year will be on the downward slope to autumn. It’s definitely a bitter-sweet time of year.

Meanwhile, looking up magnolias I went on a journey through the Southern states of the USA and a history of lynching via Strange Fruit.

Looking forward to Spring

I’ll just link to a text article, you will have to sort out your favourite version of the song. I wasn’t sure whether to link to Billie Holiday or Nina Simone in the first place. Then I discovered that Siouxsie Sioux covered it. It’s not, I feel, a great version, but it does add a bit of variety. It’s amazing where blogging takes you.

I enjoyed your very spring like pictures in this post. I am firmly of the opinion that if a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing badly, and I have stuck to that for all my life.

I’m popping in to say “Hi” Simon. I do agree that “Good Enough” is always preferable to perfection. Because perfection never happens. I remember Siouxsie and the Banshees but I never had heard of her name alone. I was sad to see your reference to Strange Fruit. It seems that I am too often ashamed of my country these days.

That’s true, Simon. It’s rather widespread, isn’t it? I’m glad we are finally calling it out and making some noise about it, for what it’s worth.

Unfortunately, as so many of them have no shame, it doesn’t work. Mandelson just asked for £500,000 as the actions of the British Govt have, it seems, caused him many problems. He didn’t get it, but he seemed totally oblivious to the fact it was his own actions that caused the problems.

I was a kinda fan of Susie Sioux only in the way that I liked, The Bay City Rollers, although I think their songs are still listenable. I didn’t listen to the Billy Halliday version but I think I would prefer it, she’s quite moody, as a singer not a misery, but there again I never met her.
Yup, Spring is here, thank the Lord 😀

That’s the problem, I do the same – see somebody on TV and form an opinion on their character. Every time I see Susan Calman on TV, for instance, I think how pleasant she is. But she could be a real diva once the cameras stop – you never know.

Well apparently she has a net worth of 57million, so she can afford to be nice. But then like all internet based info, that could be twaddle 😂

If one gets up in the morning and does the best they can that day, it is probably good enough.

I had not hear of Siouxsie Sioux. Her biography is interesting.
