This is the post I meant to write before I published the last post prematurely.
On 8th October 2014, I started this blog.
The subject was Green Care, the group known as Quercus Community and guinea fowl. I seem to have written about this last year too, my memory really is going. The first post contained the words “it might be asking too much of a blog if I expect it to correct my character flaws”. So far, this has proved correct. Despite 2,114 posts I am still the same deeply flawed human being I have always been, with a Cavalier Attitude to grammar and an addiction to random capitalisation. I have not, as I have noted elsewhere, found fame and fortune and no Fleet Street editor has chased me with promises of cash, cocaine and female company in return for my services. Not that I would actually recognise cocaine if it shoved itself up my nose.
This is the first picture I published on WP. In those days I was able to see them after I posted them. I can see this one, but expect it will disappear in a few minutes.
Anyway. I found limited fame and fortune amongst the dozen or so readers who visit regularly, and that will do for me. The friendship on WP has a price above rubies.
I have sort of drifted off Green Care along the way, Quercus Community closed down after we were forced form the farm and despite my recent mentions of Parker Pens I have yet to be offered either free pens or a sponsorship deal. The only thing that lasted was the name of the blog, which is now inaccurate. On the subject of Parker pens, don’t come crawling to me when I’m a famous writer Parker, my price will have gone up by then.
Thye blog really needs a makeover and a new name, like “A Fat Luddite Moaning” or “The Epitome of Gittitude”. This will, of course, be lost on you if you come from a culture lacking Luddites and miserable old gits.
So there we are, a journey from there to here, with a few diversions. Now I’m going to cook tea.
Lockdown news – Nottingham still heads the table for new cases and “Mayors of Northern Towns” get a lot of airtime whining about why they need more help. Nottingham gets no decision about locking down, no help and no airtime.
You might be better off without instructions from on high and just get on with coping on your own in Nottingham. Would you trust instructions from a Health Minister who appears to be spending his free time in the MP’s Smoking Room and then denying that he was in the MP’s bar after the 10.00 pm curfew after someone snitched on him?
Yes. we are locking ourselves down more firmly than the government suggests, partly because the government isn’t doing enough and partly because you can’t trust the public round here. Hope you are all staying safe. 🙂
Thank you, Simon; yes, we are fine here though the infection rate is going up in our local towns, not just among the young people but across all ages. It appears to be worse now than during the first spike, unfortunately. The local children are all back at school and we still have visitors from all over the country taking advantage of our quiet lanes etc. Not sure why it is worse now, other than people generally not taking as much care as they did in the summer. I hope you and Julia keep safe 🙂
People socialising and not taking care. Hard to blame them, but that is where the blame lies. I have been shopping three times in the last two weeks – loads of staff not wearing masks. Am tightening up no, just needed to buy a few things. 🙂
🙂
I had been wondering if you would change the name of your blog. Titles with ‘fat hit’ and ‘Luddite’ in them may not be an accurate description of your content, even if you think it is.
🙂 Naming a blog can be very difficult.
🤔 What do you want the main message of your blog to be?
Ah well, that’s where the problem starts… I’m not really sure these days.
Well, the day will come when you know what you want to say 💡
I just log on an blether. Some days I don’t know what I want to say until I’ve said it.Strategy and planning are not my strong points. 🙂
Well, I still think there is mileage in finding a title. ‘Ruminations from …’, for example?
I will give it some thought. 🙂
Good plan 😊
My daughter in Mapperley is, like you, awaiting clear instructions. Your mention of Parker pens reminds me of Samsonite’s missed opportunity: https://derrickjknight.com/2012/06/03/tenacious/
I fear we may continue waiting, as they are showing no signs of urgency. It is all very depressing.
Oh, this made me smile! To Clif, I read aloud the bit about grammar and capitalization. You will always be Quercus to me, and long may you write!
I did once think of changing my name rather than changing the blog name. But in the end, with my customary idleness, I did neither.
You will always be Quercus. It is a fine name. 🙂
Covid is spiking in my own town now, so I expect things will tighten up here soon.
I’d rather be restricted than in hospital. Lockdown and cake is my knew lifestyle choice.
I am very surprised that you haven’t had a strict lockdown slapped on you. Can it be that the government doesn’t know that Nottingham is part of the UK? Or is it just too far south to get rough treatment?
Leicester is further south so I’m not sure geography is the reason. I suspect they don’t want to pay for a lockdown. Personally I favour raising the money by selling Scotland to the EU, which would achieve a result that would make many people happy.
That is a good idea.
It follows in a grand tradition of short-termism and selling off the family silver that has been the hallmark of our government for many years.
You might miss us if we go.
I’d definitely miss you if you went, but as you have an entire political party devoted to leaving it seems many of you wouldn’t miss me.
We wouldn’t miss being governed by the types that your fellow voters insist on returning to parliament.
And your fellow voters. You can’t blame us for everything.
I don’t see why not.
