Capitulation

Wilford Notts

It looks like I’m going to have to use some form of block editor whether I want to or not. I’m currently using the Classic Block. It isn’t as easy for me as using the old editor because I have to select something before starting and because I have various things floating round the scree as I try to type. I seem to have got rid of the small box of icons, but still have a small black box with a cross in it and a line that says “Start writing or type/to choose a block”.

None of this seems to be an improvement on the old one, and it certainly doesn’t seem intuitive, as they claim.

As a result, I went looking alternatives. There won’t be any sudden changes as I’m within days of paying for another year, but in the long term I can’t see myself staying with WordPress.

The inability to use large numbers of my photos is irksome, as I [pay what seems a lot of money each year for the storage of photos I cannot access. Ditto for the countless small glitches, particularly those that occur around the time of “improvements” – you will never persuade me these are anything other than faults caused by tinkering.

Finally, of course, we have the new editor. I don’t want it and I’m happy with the old one. I just need a basic package to write and add a few photos.

Having checked a few lists of top ten blogging sites I find that the only one where WordPress comes out on top is the list published by WordPress, the other two had it in at Number 4 and Number 5. This wasn’t the case when I started six years ago, but things seem to have changed.

Maybe it’s time I changed.

If I’m going to be forced into using a new editor I may as well use a whole new platform.

It’s done it again, a new pop up with a small selection of icons. Now my bar at the top with editing options has gone, it’s telling me to insert a featured image but I can’t see how and the side menu is not as good as it used to be.

I don’t need this.

Photos are from a walk I took yesterday in the wetland area behind the Mencap garden.

Oh look, instead of just starting to type again I have to select Classic Block again – what a great improvement.

So far I haven’t been forced to use the new editor. I will be, though, so I’ll suck it up at the time. It’s a lovely post, though, so I’m wondering if it’s just difficult?

I’ve noticed with Tootlepedal and Derrick that the posts are clear and the photos bigger, but I was happy how I was. I didn’t need the improvements and I tend to think, as usual, that the word “improvement” is mis-used.

I like the new block editor with the single exception that it only lets me load one picture at a time for the style of post that I want. I think that the motivation behind the changes is to cater for people who want a blog that can sell things. They keeping on offering me advice on how to monetise my site. I remain calm, I hope that you don’t change platform as I don’t want to fish in uncharted waters to find you and you are the chief delight of my blogging day.

You are, as usual, too kind. I just don’t understand why I have to change from something that suits me to something that doesn’t, whilst paying handsomely for that ‘privilege’.

I’m not sure that ‘delight’ sums my recent posts up.

So it seems, but they ought to look in a dictionary and stop getting “change” and “improvement” mixed up. The block editor is a change. It is not, for me, an improvement and it is not, as they say, intuitive.

Well, I have been sticking with just uploading a photo and getting it in the center. I customized the sizes Want the photos several years ago and it all works fine as far as I know. I haven’t played around very much with the block editor with he theme I use. I am sure it works better with some themes than others. Take care and thanks for sharing.

I’m sure I’ll come to terms with it eventually but I don’t like being pushed around. Hope you’re keeping well, I will pop over in the next few days and see how you are doing.

    Great Pictures.
I’m hearing this a lot right now in most posts and struggling as well. My son and assistant who are in their 30’s are actually saying I should leave and their are other more professional sites.
Now, I feel commited to my community here but that could change.. have you pinged them or has anyone else I wonder?

I know what you mean about being committed to your community. I did make my position clear last time they tried to force the issue. They have “won” by making me change but they may not win when the time comes for renewals.

I’m sure it’s because it’s easier for them and the young jet-setting make-up wearing lifestyle bloggers that infest the place.Mutter, grumble, mutter…

        👍❣️
Hey, on another note, not sure if you saw my post today but check it out. My friend’s movie that she produced launched today and we can stream it tonight. Really excited. You might enjoy as well. ❤️

It looks fun but I don’t actually have sound on my ancient computer and, in my mid-20th century way, don’t really know what streaming is. Sorry to be such a Luddite.

Thank you. I won’t be doing anything hasty but as my blogging platform and my email system have both made themselves less easy to use it’s probably time to make a change.

I’ve been meaning to alter the blog for several years but I am also lazy. 🙂

However, if they are going to make life difficult for me it may just be the push I need.

So far my computer hasn’t upgraded to block, just my iPad. I admit I do a very straight forward blog, and when I wrote my weekend posts on the iPad I’ve been fine. Time will tell though

Ok…I’ll start over. I always type day of, but since my Monday to Friday posts are longer, I do them on my computer. For some reason my computer hasn’t pushed me to the new block editor yet. This past weekend when I typed on my iPad, it had already installed new block editor. For a short post it was fine. I don’t know how it will work with linger posts

Aha! I thought I’d trapped you being highly organised and planning in advance, a veritable Moriarty of the blogging world.

I still suspect it, but I just haven’t proved it. 🙂
