WordPress Hates Me!

It is that time of year again and I have a blanket around my shoulders as I sit in the dining room and type. It would be easy to turn on the heating, but I’m thinking of seeing if we can make it to November before we start  to use the heating. In the old days, when my parents had a stone-built house with thick walls and no heating apart from an AGA and electric fires, I thought little of working in my room until my hands turned purple with cold. Eventually, when the wiring started to give problems, they had the house rewired and installed electric central heating. There was no gas in the village so it was electricity, coal or buy an oil tank.
The internal walls were so thick that the electrician who quoted for the job had to buy new tools and take a break to restore his mental equilibrium. It was then that we realised how many extensions had been added to the house, and how many “internal” walls had started life as exterior wall.
I suppose that’s why I have an enduring daydream about living in the desert. I like cactus and lizards in the garden would be fun, but most of ll it would be nice to know every day would end up being sunny. We are heading for four days of warmer weather again in Nottingham, but “warmer” is a relative term. This morning we had ice on the car and the alarm pinged to tell us it was 4° C.

You would not believe the trouble I’ve had typing that degree sign. I had to have four attempts and look it up twice. Then, while I had my head down typing I seem to have pressed the wrong button and wiped most of the post. At that point I realised it is so long since I’ve had to recover text that I’d forgotten how to do it. This text looks very small and pale – I do hope it’s going to show up properly when I post. If not, you have my apologies.

You can guess my feelings on the matter from the title.

The header picture is Julia – so much more reliable than WordPress. One picture is all you’re getting – I’m  not giving the computer a chance for more messing about.

Hello, Simon! The temps here have been nice compared the the heat of the summer. We may make it through October without a “F”. I have had the same thing happen when I have been on a roll and accidentally pressed the wrong button. GEEZ! On my iMac, I just press the shift and option button at the same time then press 8 for the °. I don’t use it often enough, so sometimes it takes a few jabs at it. I noticed the small print right off so I zoomed in to read your post. I haven’t had any problems with WordPress for a while, but my internet is running at a snails pace. It is contagious because my computer is running slower even when I am not online. I feel like it is time for an upgrade. It looks like your wife is getting ready to cheer you up… I hope you and yours are doing well. Try to keep warm and take care!

Sounds like an upgrade is on the way. I had a similar experience with my mobile phone recently. I had a message from the supplier and ignored it. They are never important. Then my messaging went haywire. This included stuff from the doctor. When I eventually unravelled it all it turns out the message had been to tell me that the manufacturer was going to withdraw support from my phone model. It was working perfectly well and had all the technology I needed, but suddenly it wouldn’t work because they wanted to force me onto another model.

It didn’t cost me anything but time and frustration but it doesn’t seem a goof use of resources.

Hope you are keeping well. I have t go to work in a minute but will look in tonight.

I usually type out my posts on Microsoft Word so that I can have access to the special characters. Then I just copy and paste the post onto WP.

Yes, it does require a certain amount of fortitude. I have a list taped to the wall at work – all the accents and fractions I use regularly. On WP I don’t usually bother, but the degree sign is so much neater than “degree” all the time. Good luck with it.

I am sorry WP is giving you trouble, Simon. In the meantime, stay warm and drink lots of hot tea with Julia.

The desert you might find a tad uncomfortably hot in summer, especially out here in the west where there are also water supply issues.

It’s a dream desert – the temperature is always pleasantly warm and my back garden is an oasis. The real desert could only be a let-down after this. But I’d give it a try this winter if I could. 🙂

Thanks for pointing that out – I had to cut and paste this from then edit screen and didn’t realise theer were labels about deletion. Ironically, I have now deleted them. 😉

I am sorry about your troubles with WordPress. It is hard enough being a sage and an inspiration to your readers without having to do it all twice. It was faint but it was readable
