I prepared Julia’s day this morning and laid it all out within arm’s length of her chair.
Remote control, Kindle, newspaper, flask of green tea, cereal, milk, sandwiches for lunch…
Then I slipped out to work and left her sleeping. Sleep is a greatly underrated as a curative measure and she generally resists it as she thinks it’s being lazy. She also believes that the best way to deal with a bad back is to work it off, and we all know how that worked out.
I think it comes from being a mother. Mothers, like ideas and the Pinkerton Detective Agency, never sleep.
Me, I have no problem with sleeping, and often take a preventive nap in front of the TV. Sometimes I take several, because you can’t be too careful with your health.
In fact I’m going to go to sleep now.
Henry Ford said: “I never stand if I can sit and I never sit if I can lie down.”
I tend to agree with this as a philosophy, though I’m not going to adopt all his ideas.
Could to know that Henry Ford had some sensible ideas. alongside the rampant racism and Fordlandia.
Yes, he was not a universally admirable man.
I can’t stay asleep – I keep waking up too soon and before I realise what I am doing I am out of bed and doing things! I stay up much too late in the hope of staying later in bed in the morning! I hope Julia continues to improve.
Yes, when Julia is worried about getting up early we sometimes have a scenario where she wakes up too soon then wakes me to tell me she’s woken up too early. It’s always good to talk.
And I am sure you are only too ready to have a chat! π
At that time in the morning I’m positively garrulous. And charming.
π
A number of pointed suggestions from you about doing a bit of physical exercise should be sufficient to ensure that she takes all the rest she needs.
Nice bit of psychology there, I’ll give it a go. π
Always a challenge not to do too as soon as you start feeling better. So glad Julia is feeling better. Sleep definitely helps with recovery.
I think she’s coming round to my way of thinking but I’m not convinced she’s committed to the idea of resting.
Some people are constitutionally unable to rest. My mother was like, and I have a couple of friends who are that way, too. As for me, I need a certain amount of couch time every day if I’m going to be at all productive.
It’s all part of the creative psyche. π
That’s what I tell myself. I need that downtime. Still, I must admit to being envious when I see how much my more energetic friends achieve. But being busy every second of the day just isn’t me.
They might do more, but have they ever written a Maya novel? I think not.
Aww, thanks!
Credit where it’s due. π
I think some people are born to sleep, whilst others arenβt π.
You have to make the most of your talents. π

I once knew a surgeon who said that whenever he felt like exercising he would lie down until it wore off. I do hope Julia’s sleep helped.
We are seeing a small but steady improvement thanks. The real; challenge will be stopping her doing too much as she starts to feel better.
