Here I am again.
It told me I could start typing or select a block, so I started typing. The only problem was that there was no bar for editing. So I deleted the first two sentences, selected a block and started again.
So far I am unable to see how that is an improvement over the previous system, where you just started typing and the editing toolbar was already there.
I’ve been reading other blogs and commenting, but so far the urge to write a post has not hit me.
I wrote a letter to my MP about the badger cull last night and have written to her tonight on the subject of hen harriers. I saw “wrote” – actually I filled in email forms and sent them off.
I’ve just had a bit of a struggle trying to add a link to Langholm – a centre for harrier research and conservation, and home of Tootlepedal.
It’s just taken me ten minutes to do the last few lines as the blocks seemed to break and wouldn’t let me add links. As far as I know I did nothing to cause it.
I can’t find a box to link to previous blog posts, or search my blog. I also can’t find a word counter at the bottom of the page. Whatever this “Classic” block is, it isn’t very much like the old classic editor.
In fact I’m fed up of writing this. The complexity of using the new system, and the lack of familiar features, has sucked the fun out of blogging. I’m off to write poetry now. It is more fun and nobody has yet devised a way of taking the fun out of it.
It’s now demanding I select a block to add a final paragraph – just going to say that the Featured Image and Category windows, which were missing last night, have returned. Featured image is a Speckled Wood from yesterday.
I am sorry you are having such difficulty with this new WP editor. I decided to continue with the old, old editor as I couldn’t work out how this new one worked. They may be of use to you; it depends on when you began your latest blog as to whether you are able to easily change back to the old editor.
It was less glitchy tonight, until the end when I posted and then buttons seemed to be missing so I had to leave WP and log in again as there was no way to get out of the editor and look at the post.

I am glad that you are supporting hen harriers but I am sorry that providing a link to Langholm was such a chore. I don’t know why you are having such trouble with WP, it must be very wearing. I think that my decision not to try to persevere with the classic editor was probably a good one judging by your struggles. Not everything is to my satisfaction. I would like to be able to edit my header but haven’t found out how to do it yet, but actually writing the posts is smooth enough and I added a link to yesterday’s post using my phone while lying in bed in the early hours of the morning.
A couple of days ago I switched on and was forced into using the new block editor.
I am using the new block editor, just with the classic block as I’m familiar with the controls.
This would suggest that I would have the same problem whatever block I used. As with last night I got most of the post done, then had a problem and had to spend ages trying to sort it out.
I can’t even see my phone without my glasses so I am definitely not going to start using it for blogging. I haven’t even connected it to the internet for email.
I’m beginning to think you have an irredeemably positive outlook on life and technology. Your use of a bicycle computer should have alerted me to this fact.
I keep my blog as simple as I possibly can, some words, a picture, some words, another picture. That way I get into a routine and that helps. Boring but helpful. I can’t read my phone without glasses either unless I shut one eye and hold it very close.
I have to hold it far away to read it, but my arms are not long enough these days. I could hold it close and use my jeweller’s eyeglass, but that would involve becoming interested in technology. 🙂

Yes, I’m using an ancient computer with Windows XP and Word 2007. This might be a factor, but it wasn’t a factor before I was forced to change to the Block Editor.
I’m with Lavinia and Lisa. Culls always sicken me.
I rarely see it as a solution. As it involves shooting badgers caught in cage traps I wonder at the sort of person who gets involved.
Right? Makes me sad just thinking about it. Poor creatures.

It was proved years ago that culling creates stress, which causes more TB. Vaccination works but slaughter, it seems, is easier for the average farmer/MP to understand. If there was a grant for having badgers on your farm the situation would soon change…
The butterflies are beautiful. I am sorry to hear about the badger cull, and it seems senseless to me. I hope your MP can halt it.
I’m sure it’s been proved several times that slaughter doesn’t work and vaccination does, but there are more farmers than badgers in Parliament.
Keep fighting!
