This morning, as Julia struggled to work by bus again, I relaxed, ate toast and watched the weather report on TV. The forecast stated that there was a weather warning in Derbyshire, that there might be snow on high ground and that it might rain at lower levels. That was all very much like the forecast yesterday, which proved to be so badly wrong.
As I thought of yesterday’s events, and the unexpected snow, a flurry of medium flakes drifted past the window.
“Well, well,” I muttered as I watched them fall.
After about twenty seconds and several dozen flakes they stopped falling. It hardly seemed worth the trouble.
Work was fairly average. There were only six parcels to pack, a much more restful number than yesterday’s 28. We had several people bringing coins in to sell, including three who wanted to sell metal detector finds. One wanted too much money and one had boxes of interesting, but low quality, junk. We did, however, buy a sixpence of Queen Elizabeth I and a Saxon sceatta.

This is how life in a coin shop should be – we have been a bit quiet recently and it’s nice to be busy.
I also put a number of coin sets on eBay. It’s not the glamorous end of the coin trade (if such a thing exists) but someone has to do it. Life can’t all be Gold Nobles of Henry V. This was what last night’s speaker found when he detected a Gold Noble on Time Team shortly after starting detecting. He hasn’t found one since!

I am sorry about your closed bridge. It made a traffic report that I heard this morning. My son had to take a day off work as his bridge was closed due to blocks of ice falling on eight cars. At least you were spared that.
You are right about Tristan da Cunha.
Yes, falling ice blocks would be a lot worse than a bit of inconvenience. Queuing and complaining is a lot better than being hit by a chunk of ice.
“Life can’t all be gold nobles of Henry V.” Oh, so true! I’m going to have to remember that one and trot it out from time to time. Hope the weather doesn’t throw any more curve balls at you.
We are bracing for rain and 60-80 mph winds at the weekend. Ah well…
Holy cats! Can’t like this one! Hope there isn’t too much damage. In central Maine, with winds like that, there would be power outages. Guaranteed.
WE seem to survive. When I lived out on the Fens, which can be a trifle breezy on account of tgheir flatness, we sometimes saw the telegraph poles bending. 🙂

It is. I have a backlog of photos that I can’t be bothered to post. One day I will get it done…
Glad your weather was not as bad as expected. We had a partly to mostly cloudy day here today, but it was dry. I got out today to pick some brussels sprouts from the garden – yes, they are still producing in our climate. They were a test this year, I had not grown them before. They did well, along with the broccoli and kale.
Always good to hear – reasonable weather and fresh greens. 🙂
