I have frittered my night away and now have seven minutes to keep my new plan (two posts a day for a fortnight) on track.
It was light this evening. At 4.00 it was still almost daylight where it had been srak at tat time only a few weeks ago. This state persisted until I finished my shopping at 4.45 and walked out into a beautiful evening. The day had gone by that time but the sky was still bright with the remains of a sparkling winter day.
There was enough pink in the sky to bring the clouds to life, and depending on which way I was facing, or how high I was, wisps of cloud streaked the sky, or gathered in hollows to bathe the city buildings in a pink halo.
I eventually got home and was able to take more photos. My camera did its best to average out the colour, because that is what it is set up to do by the scientists who designed it. But it couldn’t completely remove the beauty.
Another attempt
I tried some of the special settings – moonlight, sunset, pop art, but they have atendency to alter rather than accentuate. The moonlight setting removed even more colour, the sunset a setting didn’t seem to make any difference and the pop art setting tended towards the garish end of things. I had thought of using the expression “gilding the lily” but the overall effect was like being hit in the face with a high-vis jacket. whilst standing under floodlights.but they mainly make things look garish
This is some sort of lesson in the use of modern technology to remove all that is good from our lives. Or add much that is tawdry.
Call me old-fashioned, or even a Luddite, but the modern taste seems to be for change rather than improvement.
Looks like I’ve missed the target, but I’d rather develop my theme than cut it short for the sake of meeting a self-imposed deadline. I will add some photographs now and post about 20 minutes late. Twenty minutes, in my flexible world, is not worth worrying about. Or even 30…
Garish & tawdry. The fact that it is blurred is the least of this picture’s worries…
I wish I could work a miracle. I only just sent the help inquiry to WP….I think this confirms these machines have a mind of their own. BTW, I forgot to say, I’m thinking about getting my Canon camera repaired after all. I don’t text (and don’t have the desire…trying to retain language you know) so this Pixel 3XL is going to be a pricey emergency call phone… C’ est la vie — the trappings of technology.
Despite my misgivings, I do like the security of having a mobile phone with me.
I liked your post. And if I call you a Luddite consider it a compliment. I, too, think many of tech’s so-called improvements have only complicated our lives rather than simplified them. I just traded in my flip phone last month for a Google Pixel 3XL because my Canon Powershot camera also died. I can barely make a call on the phone let alone use the camera, even though it’s purported to take excellent photos. I have hit back against smart phones by being a stupid owner – nothing is connected and nothing goes wrong.
Totally agree about the benefits of using paper and pen.

When I was told not to apply for a top job in field social work I asked why. The answer was “You are not in the forefront of change”. “Someone has to do the nurturing” was my reply. I went freelance so I could.

Well Derrick, I am so sorry to hear that WP wouldn’t allow you to follow me as I’d love to have you on board. I have had that happen to me too — where WP won’t allow me to like or comment on a blog — even ones that have accepted me. Perhaps this is retaliation from those digital devices, knowing of my dislike for them. I will check with WP help and see if we can get this fixed.

I’m proud of you for missing your deadline. All the better for us. Sometimes you make me feel releived that I am too scared to deviate from automatic on my camera.
The arrival of digital photography ( as in ability to shoot thousands of shots for nothing, really set me free. 🙂
I feel your pain. If your camera has a shutter speed setting, it sometimes pays to use that as it gives you a bit of control.
To be honest it is years since I gave shutter speed a thought. I should apply some brains to my photography and see what happens. 🙂

That is a beautiful pink sunset, Quercus. My camera has palm tree setting for intensifying blue for water and sky. Sometimes works for other colors, too. Seems to make some difference. 🙂
I keep meaning to try some of the others. I have one for food photography which supposedly livens up the colour but I always forget. I may try to intensify the sky insyeaqd of going for the pinks.
