It’s very windy this morning, though according to the weather forecast it isn’t a storm. As I lack formal training I can’t actually tell the difference.
Julia’s brother rang us last night to tell us. He’d been in the park next to the mosque shooting in New Zealand yesterday and heard the gunfire.
I wasn’t worried because I’d forgotten he was there. Julia wasn’t worried either, because she hadn’t realised how close to the shooting he was. Now she’s worried. I’m not. Over the years I’ve allowed her to do the worrying. She has more compassion than I do.
Time for work now, but I thought I’d share my brief connection to history.
There is, I feel an irony to the situation where an Australian gunman tries to draw attention to the perils of immigration in New Zealand. I’m sure the Maori and Aborigines are already aware of the perils of uncontrolled immigration.
As for Trump’s wall, which is in the news again, well if I wasn’t going to work I’d feel compelled to mention that he really should give Texas back to Mexico…
We’d be happy to give Texas back. Heh, heh. I’m glad your brother-in-law is safe. this shooting epidemic is crazy. It’s all about white power and people thinking they’re losing out because someone else is getting something.
I just don’t understand what they hope to achieve. I don’t recall any terror attack ever bringing about any change for the better.
Me either. I thought about it for a bit and can’t think of anything.
I suppose they may just want to cause fear and insecurity. That’s the only thing I can think of.
I agree with your thoughts about immigration to Australia but as the Maoris were fairly recent immigrants too, their case might be a bit harder to sustain. I notice that the right wing NZ terrorist is never referred to as a Christian terrorist. Terrorists from the middle east are always referred to as Muslim terrorists though they are just as right wing as the Christians.
They were there several hundred years before the Europeans – enough to establish squatter’s rights, I feel.
Not sure any of the attacks on mosques are by people who could be described as Christian.

Yes. I, on the other hand, am a big target. Allied to slow reactions this caused me a number of problems when compelled to play cricket at school. 🙂

So glad you brother-in-law is safe, but how horrible he was close enough to hear the shots. I had the same exact thoughts about the shooter’s ignorant assumption about white people and Australia and New Zealand. Well put, Quercus!
He went weeks ago so I’d assumed he was home. There’s no holding him now he’s retired. 🙂
