A Sunny Day at the Seaside

We went to the seaside today.

While we were out we went round a garden centre, visited a bookshop (and bought no books!), saw a lot of marshes and ate fish and chips. I also found space for a syrup sponge and custard.

We saw seven Brimstones, a couple of whites and a Red Admiral. Julia has being seeing Brimstones down at the Mencap garden, so it looks like we could be in for a good Brimstone year.

Then we came home for the last of the homemade soup.

There was, of course, a bit more to it than that, but it’s not very interesting. It’s also just after 10pm and I have a lot to do in the next few hours so I’ll leave it here and take up the story later.

I have some major changes to discuss with you all.

Actually, it’s a big change. I’ve done a similar thing and have not regretted it.

We have a red admiral here, too – but when I looked up yours it says it’s in England and when I look up mine it says nothing of Brimstone. So I don’t know if we are talking about the same thing. (I have seen your “robin” bird and it is nothing like ours – plus there’s that whole “pudding” issue – I just never know with you guys)

Major Changes? You just got a new job. . . I am curious.

“Pudding issue”? I didn’t realise we had one. I know there’s a “gravy and biscuits” issue – ie they aren’t biscuits and that isn’t gravy, but I didn’t realise there was a problem with pudding.

I hesitate to answer, because I think it’s past your bedtime. But I think your pudding is some kind of savory stuffing thing, right? And ours is a creamy dessert – like warm ice cream. And – your biscuits are cookies, right? And our biscuits are like plain muffins – sort of a poor man’s rolls. And, well – gravy – no one agrees on that – My gravy is a sauce made of meat drippings – but my Italian neighbor’s gravy is my spaghetti sauce. Do YOU have another gravy?

Ah – you’re right about that other gravy. That’s the SOUTHERNER’s gravy. I think it is flour and water (glue) plus bacon grease – something of the sort. And maybe milk so they can call it an actual food. But – yes – yet ANOTHER gravy.
